General dubstep dj music production question? Hey, just looking for a little cumulative information on how an actual dubstep artist 'works' from start to finish. My take on it thus far, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that the DJ creates songs using samples and original beats from a DAW like reason or fruity loops. I’m curious in this step, as to how that juicy womp sound is made? After the song is made he then brings these samples to turntables where the music is mixed live for an original sound. I assume this is also how most DJ's remix songs as well. Are the tables used mainly in live performance, or are they an integral part of the recording process as well? Thanks for the input!

What is the difference between a Record Label and a Music Production Co.? Just tryind to establish some understanding on the difference…..sometime I think that they both make and produce music as well as the artist. What part does the label play verses the production?

It boils down to 2 different dynamics of getting an album on the shelves; the creativity versus business. A production company typically handles the production and mastering of an artists performance (what you hear), while a label handles the distribution, which is he cost of recording the CD and making it, and getting it on the shelves (what you buy). This process has been undercut by the advent of digital downloads, both legal and not (think ITunes and Limewire). While the record companies hate the fact that albums can be downloaded cheaper or even free, this new era gives new opportunities to the smaller, more talented production companies that ate actually trying to make good music. Think about all the ads you see saying digital downloads are evil. Who do you think paid for those? The same goes for video as well.

They can be the same thing…back in the old days, a record label financed and produced the music for artists. These days, many record labels serve as simply the financial aspect, while relying on music production companies to actually produce the music.

Music production software? Is there a good program for free on the internet that lets you produce some synthesized music, such as dubstep? Mind you I've never done it before, so it doesn't have to be fancy. Just a nice starter program to give you a feel for creating your own tracks. Thanks
